In announcing the completely new number of scrapped games, Basketball commissioner David Stern mentioned that for no reason would the Basketball play an entire season this season-12. ESPN.com reported that although gaps are actually bridged on secondary issues, none was forged for your major concern of techniques basketball-related earnings is distributed. Even though difference in demands may appear small initially, it remains a mountainous obstacle with a deal. Players, who've been guaranteed 57% in the last collective settling agreement, are holding ground at surprisingly than 52%. Entrepreneurs, who taken happen to be asking to lessen the players' share to 47%, are really pushing for just about any 50-50 split. Talks brought to Friday mid-day in NY, with no new conferences involving the parties scheduled. "We now have lost $200 million, we will probably lose 100s of (million) more," Stern mentioned. "The next offer will reflect the amazing deficits that are mounting up now." On March. 10, Stern canceled the initial 2 days in the 2011-12 regular season, that have been scheduled to start November. 1. Melissa Joan Hart Punished By Former Manager for Commissions

GettyMelissa Joan Hart Melissa Joan Hart's former talent manager has punished the actress for allegedly decreasing to cover commissions on money she acquired for your hit ABC Family series Melissa & Joey. The complaint, filed Wednesday in La Superior Court by Kieran Maguire, begins in what might be the very best suit line of year: "Melissa Joan Hart does not have heart." Ouch. We've showed up at to Hart's reps for comment. Maguire states Hart hired him in August 2006 when her career was "dwindling" and agreed orally to cover him the traditional ten percent commission on earnings. According to him he represented her for five years, including throughout time she got the series Melissa & Joey started, until he was fired in March 2011. Hart is becoming allegedly decreasing to cover commissions to Maguire beyond people within the newbie in the show. "This case is really a more incident from the actress who seeks to take full advantage of, mistreat and thumb her nose at people in their employ - in this case the one that saved her career since it was quickly decreasing towards obscurity," states the suit, a replica that was acquired by THR. Strangely enough, the complaint alleges that Hart was paid out just $3,750 per episode for your first season of Melissa & Joey, gathering $122,700 for 30 episodes (plus $10,200 in extra commissions). What to Expect From Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol's Wild IMAX Action Sequences

This December 16, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol premieres in IMAX five days in advance of its general release. Why exactly? Probably to encourage fans of the Tom Cruise franchise to see the picture in the large format director Brad Bird intended when he shot thirty minutes-worth of the fourth Ethan Hunt film in IMAX. To convince journalists that the large format is indeed worth higher ticket prices, an advance release date and a little early buzz, Paramount screened about 20 minutes worth of wild action sequences at the Rave 18 theater in Los Angeles last week. Ahead, the stomach-flipping details (and very mild spoilers). Producer Bryan Burk (Lost, Star Trek) introduced the footage by explaining that “there’s nothing Tom loves more than making these movies. […] He gives 110 percent which is daunting because I really, on my best day, give 5 percent. He loves doing stunts and being a part of it. Literally, every single shot you see is Tom Cruise. There are no stuntmen involved. He did have a stuntman who would go out and test wires and things. [The stuntman] is literally fearless — except for one fear which happens to be heights. Fortunately for the rest of us, Tom didn’t have that.” With that disclaimer, Burk threw to the first sequence which begins in a jeep as Tom Cruise’s IMF agent Ethan Hunt and his team (comprised of Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and, supplying the comic relief, Simon Pegg) speed towards Dubai. “They are literally on ghost protocol which means the entire agency is shut down — it does not exist,” explained Burk beforehand. The foursome heads to the highest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa to “to stop a meeting between two people who should not be meeting.” Once set up inside — with Patton’s character surveying the appropriate floor in disguise — Renner, Cruise and Pegg’s characters figure out how they will infiltrate an impenetrable suite high above them. The only option they have, it seems, is for Hunt to scale the building with high tech “sticky gloves” that can support his weight and adhere himself to the building. The only problem? They, being such new technology, occasionally malfunction — when the film’s hero is nearly a half mile above ground. The entire sequence is shot in dizzying IMAX with sweeping establishing shots showing a picturesque city — and then the insanely high building that Cruise climbs. One particularly stomach-churning shot pans up the building before flipping over the tower — looking down — and keeps going. Another impressive shot runs down the side of the building, giving viewers the sense that they are riding a roller coaster. Without giving too much away, the tension-filled sequence — during which Ethan Hawke’s life is at risk multiple times — ends with the perfect comedic button from Simon Pegg. The levity was, as Burk explained, something that was not part of the Mission Impossible franchise beforehand but something that director Bird felt passionate about infusing into the fourth installment. The second sequence shown was a high-pace chase scene that occurs during a sandstorm. Audience members cannot see anything except sand granules whipping at them and Tom Cruise, who is forced to chase a baddie using a GPS tracker device only since he cannot see more than six inches in front of him. Oh, and did I mention that part of this chase occurs in vehicles racing at high speeds? The scene ends as the sand storm does — the haze and sand fall away and Cruise is left staring at his target as he speeds away. So yes, if you are going to make a trip to the local IMAX theater this holiday season, maybe consider Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. Tom Cruise only risked his life to give you these death-defying movie thrills. Watch the new trailer, courtesy of Yahoo:

TV acad election produces apparent choice

WiardRosenblumThe Academy of Arts & Sciences will elect a completely new chairman, and from afar your competition seems just like a David-and-Goliath mismatch: Bruce Rosenblum, leader in the Warner Bros. Television Group and Nancy Bradley Wiard, formerly a producer on "The Youthful as well as the Restless," now a completely independent producer and consultant.Like Florida, however, academy elections can yield surprises. One reason might be the couple of voters. Only reps in the board of governors and executive committee participate, meaning despite greater than 16,000 people, the election will probably be made a decision by under 70 of those. Furthermore, only people who attend the November. 16 meeting achieve register a range, after each candidate supplies a short three-minute presentation. The stakes, however, are significant. If selected, Rosenblum would be the finest-ranking person to help keep the academy's top voluntary publish ever since then-Wally Disney Art galleries mind Richard Frank succeeded over three two-year terms, concluding in 1997. Having a, having less participation among industry heavyweights lately has cost the company, which -- while everyone likes winning Emmys -- hasn't possessed much profile beyond controlling the honours.Sometimes, being active within the academy and fully utilized in TV also provide came out being mutually exclusive. Despite the fact that you can respect people who commit their time, the Emmy ideally derives its meaning within the academy being regarded as like a collective representing industry peers, not just a private club composed in the handful of, the proud, people who appear.Nevertheless, a segment in the academy is suspiciously hoping to get Rosenblum as something from the carpetbagger for entering the race -- parachuting in, rather than progressively matriculating using the ranks as Wiard, presently the vice chair, has. We're seeing muttering his status could make board people timid about challenging him, in the body where art company company directors and publicists have equal say with showrunners and company company directors -- a peer-group structure outgoing chairman John Shaffner, a production designer by trade, recently referred to as "our oddly representative government." The parallel would be the U.S. Senate, where Montana offers the identical weight as California.Reduced for the basic principles, the board faces three questions: The actual way it tackle thorny changes the systems will definitely demand inside the public ceremony over their TV contract? What is the academy's appropriate role beyond the Emmys? And which kind of leader can they want?In interviews (excerpted more fully on variety.com/bltv), neither Rosenblum nor Wiard offered specific solutions about changing the honours, though Wiard suggested the systems aren't forever in lockstep about how precisely to revise them, conceded you will discover lots of on-air honours and mentioned any tinkering ought to be done "with respect for everybody."If this involves a bigger vision, Rosenblum mentioned, "The academy features a responsibility to think about a leadership role in affecting around the transition within our industry although maintaining its role in recognizing creative excellence." He reported growing diversity, anti-piracy, maintaining local production and creating employment options as industry-wide points of interest worth focusing onto any people.Addressing whether Rosenblum posseses an edge as they regularly interacts with fellow network and studio honchos -- and many most likely would enjoy readier utilization of them -- Wiard mentioned, "I do not think I am inside a disadvantage whatsoever," adding concerning the board, "I believe that it is a sizable assistance to the region that we be familiar with people, I realize their issues, [and] I realize where we must make change."For whether Rosenblum's job at Warner Bros. could intimidate people, she mentioned, "There always is concern with the below-the-line people, which i'm able to understand numerous that feeling."For his part, Rosenblum mentioned he's comfortable operating just like a consensus builder, as well as the academy's democratic structure must eliminate such worries. "I truly view my role and experience becoming an resource for the dialogue and process," he mentioned.Frankly, the academy will trudge forward no matter the end result, similar to the Emmys continues, however with a couple of kind of facelift. Still, the clearness in the choice will define its guiding body's ambitions -- and whether they'll brave a concept that could potentially increase the risk for organization stand more than its signature event, or remain content from habit concentrating on the same-old, same-old. Jay-Z, Kanye West sued over sample

Soul singer Syl Johnson has filed suit against Kanye West and Jay-Z, alleging that a track on the superstar rappers' hit album "Watch the Throne" infringes on the copyright of his 1967 hit "Different Strokes." Action, filed Oct. 14 in federal court in Illinois, names Universal Music Group, Island Def Jam Music Group and Jay-Z's Roc-A-Fella Records as co-defendants, and seeks an injunction, actual and punitive damages and attorney's fees. According to the suit, the "Watch the Throne" track "The Joy" - originally released as a free download online -- contains an unauthorized sample from "Different Strokes," originally released on the singer's Twilight label. Through his publishing company Syl-Zel, Johnson also controls the copyright of the song, penned by John Cameron and John Zachary. Action claims that Johnson has been paid no royalties from the sale of the West/Jay-Z release, which has sold nearly 1 million copies since its release in August. "Different Strokes" is a cult soul classic that has been sampled by dozens of hip-hop artists, including Public Enemy, N.W.A., Wu-Tang Clan, Boogie Down Production and the Beastie Boys. Michael Jackson even employed a "Strokes" sample on a 1997 dance remix. Kiefer Sutherland: 24 movie script nearly ready

Who would want to be a writer on the 24 movie? Picture the scene: Kiefer Sutherland comes in, talking all nice and calmly before screaming "TELL ME WHERE THE SCRIPT IS" and waterboarding you using the office watercooler.Perhaps we're letting our imagination run away with us. Or confusing Sutherland the actor with his gruff onscreen counterpart Jack Bauer (it would probably help separate the two if US TV channel TMZ stopped showing Sutherland jumping into a Christmas tree).Still, the clock is ticking and there's no shoot scheduled for a 24 movie yet."We are coming very close to having a finished script. That's been the most difficult thing. You have to remember that we have 24 hours to explain the stories in 24 and so trying to condense that into a two-hour film version has been a real shift in gear for us," Sutherland told The Telegraph."We were originally trying to make it too big and put too much into it - but once we relaxed, we found out how to tell that story. So yes we definitely do plan on making the film."

Producer Of The British Office & IT Crowd Sells First U.S. Projects

British TV producer Ash Atalla has sold his first 2 American projects — both comedies — to CBS. They are being produced by CBS TV Studios where Atalla and his company Roughcut TV signed a first-look deal last year. In the UK, Atalla served as a producer on The Office and executive producer on The IT Crowd, both of which were remade in the U.S. by NBC. The formats’ travel to the U.S. put Atalla in contact with U.S. producers, executives and agents and got him thinking about a move across the pond for himself, too. “I thought the world of comedy was getting smaller and smaller, and I found myself knowing more and more about American television,” he said. “I really enjoyed the Americans, liked the longer runs of their shows and through that one day it may be interesting to develop shows directly for the American networks.” Atalla already has experience producing under the U.S. model, which he got to know through his friendship with former Friends executive producer Adam Chase, who created a series for BBC Three, Clone, produced by Atalla and his company. Atalla’s latest comedy series, Trollied at Sky 1, employs a U.S.-style writing staff and recently received a two-season, 26-episode order, which is pretty substantial for the UK where shows usually produce a 6-8-episode season at a time. The lead writers on that show, Nat Saunders and Chris Hayward, are writing one of Atalla’s projects for CBS, an untitled comedy about a guy with OCD. Bringing UK writers to develop directly for the U.S. networks was part of Atalla’s plan. “There is a misconception that the two countries are comedically far apart. That is false,” said Atalla who, along with Saunders and Hayward, recently signed with CAA. Atalla, Here are descriptions of Atalla’s 2 CBS comedy projects: I Lick My Cheese writer: Jamie Denbo logline: Two college sweethearts buy their first home, a fixer-upper. But the nest-building dream soon turns sour when the cost of remodeling spirals out of control and theyre forced to sublet the spare rooms. I Lick My Cheese is based on the book by Oonagh OHagan - a collection of real-life notes from the frontline of room-sharing. Untitled Saunders/Hayward writers: Nat Saunders & Chris Hayward logline: After a near-death experience, an OCD-sufferer realizes theres more to life than working at the family funeral home. But its not easy making new friends and finding love when his old habits die really hard.
